The Beach House 2.0 Checklist

Picture
Welcome! When you arrive:
  • Get the green key to the garage—next to the TV in the living room.
  • September-April, turn on the water at the street when you arrive. The tool to use is in the picture below. (Water stays turned on in the summer.)
  • Once you know the water at the street is on turn on the "hot water" breaker at the fuse box.
  • The garage can stay open during the day. Close it at night (animals wander/fly in).

While you’re there:
  • Please limit your use of the ancient washer and dryer to small items. Bring sheets home with you.
  • The "septic tank is full" light comes on easily--so take short showers and don't do lots of laundry.
  • Rinse off your shoes before coming in the house. And remove your shoes when you come in. There is a rack inside each door.
  • Rinse off your puppies before bringing them indoors. There's a hose by the front door for this very purpose.
  • Scoop poop.
  • Replace anything you use (detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, sugar, coffee, flour, pasta, mayonnaise, beer, liquor, etc.).
  • Stereo and radio equipment upstairs and downstairs are vintage and fragile and sound great. Please use them--and supervise your kids when they’re in the loft.
  • If you go clamming, rinse off all the shovels and clam guns before storing in the garage. And if you clean clams at the sink, be careful to wrap all the guts and shells in newspaper so the drain doesn't clog (there is no disposal).
  • Before you build a fire, check the "open/closed" block of wood above the fireplace. The fireplace should be cool and "closed" before you leave.
Please take your garbage and recycling to the compactor or home with you. It's open during these times:
  • Mondays: 7AM – 1PM
  • Thursdays: 12PM – 6PM
  • Saturdays: 11AM – 5PM
  • Sundays: 9AM – 3PM
Directions to the Surfside Compactor------>>
Head north on G St and follow it onto 338th Place. Turn right on 1st Street, and then left on 320th. 320th becomes J Place. Turn right on 322nd Place and then left on K Place then right on 324th Place. You'll dead-end at the Compactor site.

Take the owner's lanyard that hangs in the kitchen. The attendant will ask to see it. Tell the guy with the long mustaches that you're a Burgin. He'll smile.

Before you leave (plan on a couple of hours to do this right):
  • Each bed has an extra set of sheets in a mesh bag near the bed/in the closet. Please bring your sheets and towels back to Kari and Patty. (Don't wash them in the ancient washer/dryer.)
  • Unload the washer and dryer. Don’t leave anything wet in the washer.
  • Unload dishwasher and prop open the door with a utensil so it can dry empty.
  • Remove perishable food from the fridge.
  • Vacuum and sweep--The vacuum is plugged in in Grandma's Room.
  • Wipe out the microwave, fridge, stove top and the stove top rings.
  • Unplug the kitchen appliances on the counter.
  • Return all lawn furniture to the garage.
  • Make sure there are no smoking embers in the fireplace and then close the damper.
  • Close all the blinds when you leave. Make sure all windows are locked with both the latch lock and the lower peg lock.
  • The patio door lock is broken, so just put the wooden bar in the track. Make sure the screen door is all the way closed so it doesn't flap in the wind.
  • Remove all hoses from faucets and coil or hang hoses in the garage. Exception: Leave everything on in the summer when the hoses are connected to sprinklers on timers.
  Just before you drive away:
  • Turn down the heat to 55 degrees.
  • Turn off the wall heater in the master bathroom.
  • Turn off the water heater at the breaker in the garage.
  • Turn off the water at the street when you leave (September-April).
  • Then drain the water from the pipes by opening, then closing the faucet by the front door.
  •  Make sure the overhead garage door is locked and then put the key back on its hook by the TV.
  • Make sure the key pads on both doors are in the lock position--push "C" if they're not.
  • Push the front screen door closed.
  • Smile and wave as you drive away.
